ICSC says extra week might save retailers' season

Published

on

According to a report from the International Council of Shopping Centers, timing might save retailers from a poor holiday selling season. Though sales from November 24 to December 10, the first week of the season, declined 6.2 percent from the same week a year ago, there's an extra week to save the ship.

There are four and a half weeks – 31 days – between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. According to John Konarski, ICSC senior vp of research, “in 1995, the last time the holiday season lasted 31 days, the final two weeks accounted for over 60 percent of all holiday purchases.”

We're now in that extra week. As of today, there are still four shopping days til Christmas. Sell your hearts out.
