Macy’s Sales Rise Continues

Same-store sales up 4.2 percent in May

Cincinnati-based Macy’s Inc. reports total sales of $2.015 billion for the four weeks ended May 26, an increase of 4.1 percent. Same-store grew 4.2 percent in May 2012.

“Growth in May 2012 came from stores and online, and across geography and categories of business,” says Terry Lundgren, chairman, president and ceo, Macy’s, Inc.

For the year to date, Macy’s sales totaled $8.158 billion, up 4.3 percent from total sales in the first 17 weeks of 2011 and same-store basis increased 4.3 percent in 2012 over 2011.

Online sales in 2012, which include same-store sales calculations for both macys.com and bloomingdales.com, improved 42.3 percent in May and 35.7 percent year-to-date compared to 2011.
