Target Corp. (Minneapolis) has named Bart Butzer, formerly president of the company's Mervyn's division, as executive vp of stores for its Target division. Diane Neal will succeed Butzer as Mervyn's president.

Butzer, 44, has held a number of positions since joining Target Corp. in 1983. Prior to becoming president of Mervyn's in 1997, he was regional senior vp of Target Stores. Neal, also 44, began her career with Target Corp. in 1980 as a management trainee in merchandising at Dayton's. She, too, has held a variety of positions — in merchandising, merchandise planning and worldwide product sourcing — throughout the Target organization, at Marshall Field's, Mervyn's, AMC and Target.

Target currently operates 1321 stores in 46 states — 991 Target stores, 266 Mervyn's stores and 64 Marshall Field's department stores.
