As part of a new brand expansion strategy, Marimekko design house plans to open two New York locations: a Manhattan showroom later this month and a 1775-square-foot shop-in-shop in Crate and Barrel’s Soho store in mid-October.

The openings are part of a recent partnership with brand management firm C2Group in order to strengthen the Finnish textile and clothing design house’s presence in the U.S., which has been a strong market for Marimekko since the 1960s.

The company will also look for distribution among high-end department stores and specialty stores while increasing the number of U.S. Marimekko stores. Plans for future collaboration with Crate and Barrel included additional shop-in-shops and ecommerce.

C2 Group is led by Lynn Shanahan, Karen Martin and Allison Niles, who formed their partnership after working together at Tommy Hilfiger.
