Grocery store strikes deal with CVS; plans to close in-store pharmacies by May 5

Marsh Supermarkets (Indianapolis) is closing all of its in-store pharmacies as the grocery store chain is looking to cut costs and increase cash flow, reports IndyStar.

As the grocery store chain closes its own pharmacies, it has reached a deal with CVS (Woonsocket, R.I.) that will include selling Marsh’s prescription records and drug inventory. Marsh’s pharmacies will be shuttered by May 5, at which point, the company will direct customers to the nearest CVS to fulfill their orders. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Increased competition has forced the chain to make other cuts as well, including closing underperforming stores. As recently as 2014, the chain operated 86 stores but this month announced plans to close 10 stores, which will bring its store count down to 53 supermarkets.
