Michael Graves Design is celebrated for its visionary approach to “Design for All,” a philosophy that champions accessibility without compromising elegance. Through successful partnerships with Stryker, CVS, and Pottery Barn, as well as via MichaelGravesDesign.com, Michael Graves Design has delivered on its promise of “Delight for All” by creating visually beautiful and physically accessible products that support Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
Drawing inspiration from the legacy of Michael Graves, the Michael Graves Design for Pottery Barn collection upholds this mission, maintaining independence without sacrificing style. The collection integrates innovative enhancements that prioritize safety and functionality while maintaining an aesthetic of refined beauty and quality. This collaboration transforms the concept of accessible living, enabling individuals to achieve independence with grace, dignity, and confidence.
The Michael Graves Design for Pottery Barn collection features touchpoints for safer mobility, as well as enhanced seating options, ensuring homes are both beautiful and safe. Essential for independent living, this collection provides peace of mind and comfort. The collection offers distinct styles allowing individuals to express their personal taste without compromise. A standout feature is the adjustable lounge seating, which can be customized by an inch and a half for ergonomic comfort and accessibility.
Michael Graves Design collaborated closely with Pottery Barn to research, test, and develop this accessible home furnishings collection. Leveraging ethnographic research conducted across various communities, including adults aging in place and individuals with disabilities, Michael Graves Design created prototypes then engaged a diverse pool of potential users for “Consumer Preference Testing.” Insights from this testing influenced accessible updates to some of Pottery Barn’s best-selling collections, as well as the development of new designs such as the Yardley and Bradford Armchairs by Michael Graves Design.
Donald Strum, President of Michael Graves Design, stated, “Design has the power to enrich all of our lives. This pioneering collaboration with Pottery Barn allows us to make beautiful and purposeful furniture available to everyone.”
