Mrs. Green’s Opens in Chicago

Plans to open 6 stores throughout city

Mrs. Green’s Natural Market (Irvington, N.Y.) is expanding into Chicago, opening six stores throughout the city. The first store, which is being treated as a “neighborhood market,” is located in Winnetka, Ill., and opened this week.

At 12,000-square-feet in size, the smaller-sized store is housed in what was an auto dealership in the 1920s. The store features about 785 items that hail from area vendors, making it “almost hyperlocal,” CEO Pat Brown told the Chicago Tribune.

The company made its first attempt at breaking into the Chicago market last year, when it opened a store in Lincoln Park in February. However, by July, the company pulled out, citing reasons such as the original store being too big, opening too quickly and selling too many New-York-only products that didn’t appeal to customers. Having learned from that experience, the company plans to reopen that store by May.
