Neiman Marcus Store Features Graffiti Art

Artist known as “Seen” given total freedom, few restrictions

The Neiman Marcus Group (Dallas), well-known for supporting new artists in its stores, has hired graffiti artist Richie Mirando  to decorate two concrete block walls along the fitting room areas in its NorthPark Center store.

“The floor is based on a sense of discovery, and these walls are designed to be the crown jewel,” Ignaz Gorschek, vp of store development, told Women’s Wear Daily. “The only direction we gave him was we didn’t want anything vulgar or too aggressive.”

“I don’t normally do projects like this because most of the time they are controlled by 12 different people in the art department and everybody wants to put their input in,” said Mirando, whose street name is Seen. “The beauty of this was they said I had total freedom.”

Mirando, a native of the Bronx, N.Y., began spray painting subway cars at age 11. Within eight years, he was exhibiting in European galleries.
