Bon Marche to open furniture store in former Sears Home Life locale

Federated Department Stores Inc. (Cincinnati) will open a new Bon Marche furniture store in Tacoma, Wash., this summer. The new store will be directly across from the Tacoma Mall, where The Bon Marche also operates a full-line department store.

The furniture store will occupy 50,000 square feet of retail space on two floors. Remodeling has begun on the property, a former Sears Home Life location, and a store opening is planned for July. The Bon Marche will also remodel the Tacoma Mall full-line store's furniture area, which will allow for expanded collections of home textiles, housewares, tabletop and mattresses.

“This new store, which will be our largest furniture gallery, will showcase a greatly expanded furniture assortment offering exciting fashion and great value,” says Dan Edelman, chairman of The Bon Marche.

The Bon Marche is a Seattle-based division of Federated. It operates 48 stores in five northwest states and had 2002 sales of nearly $1 billion.
