Housewares retailer names ceo

The Bombay Co. Inc. (Fort Worth, Texas) has named chairman James Carreker to the additional post of ceo. Carreker has been serving the home accessories retailer as non-executive chairman of the board since December 2002.

Carreker, founder and owner of JDC Holdings Inc., a private equity investment firm located in Dallas, has served as chairman and ceo of Wyndham International Inc., the hotel and resort operator and developer, and as president and ceo of Trammell Crow Co., a real estate development and services company. His retail experience includes various positions with Federated Department Stores Inc. (Cincinnati), including president of the company's Miami-based Burdines division., and as senior vp of finance and operations of Sanger-Harris, the now-defunct Dallas-based division of Federated.

“Jim is well-suited to lead Bombay to the next level,” said Nigel Travis, chairman of the retailer's governance & nominations committee. “Over the last several months, he has worked closely with the company's management team to position Bombay for continued growth and profitability. His in-depth knowledge of our industry and his proven leadership skills make him an exceptional choice as ceo.”

The Bombay Co. sells its line of home accessories, wall décor and furniture through 422 retail outlets.
