The new Salvatore Ferragamo flagship store on Fifth Avenue and 52nd Street, in Rockefeller Center, and Carlos Miele on West 14th Street, in the Meatpacking District, were the 2003 winners of VM+SD's annual New York Stores of the Year award.

Ferragamo was designed by Janson Goldstein Architecture (New York); Richter + Ratner (Maspeth, N.Y.) was the general contractor. Carlos Miele was designed by Asymptote (New York); Vanguard Construction & Development (New York) was the general contractor.

The awards were announced in New York last weekend during StoreXpo, the new December market produced by VM+SD and its parent company, ST Media Group Intl. (Cincinnati). Winners will be highlighted in the January 2004 issue of VM+SD magazine.

The award is meant to honor new retail in New York, of various square footage, completed during the year that meets various retail and design criteria: visual excitement, compelling store design, efficient and smart space planning. In 2002, the first year of the awards, the winners were the Apple store on Prince Street in SoHo and the Alexander McQueen boutique on West 14th Street in the Meatpacking District.
