Nordstrom (Seattle) has signed a letter of intent to open a 144,000 square foot store at Dulles (Va.) TownCenter, the Washington area's newest super regional mall. Construction of the two-level store will begin in early 2001 with a grand opening scheduled for September of 2002. Nordstrom will join Hecht's, Lord & Taylor, JCPenney and Sears as the fifth anchor store in the high-profile project, developed by Lerner Enterprises (Washington). The 1.4 million-square-foot mall (which is co-owned by Connecticut General Life Insurance Company – CIGNA) opened in August 1999, and features over 130 specialty shops including Abercrombie & Fitch, The Gap, Banana Republic, Eddie Bauer and Old Navy; an extensive food court, The Eatery; and a Restaurant Park. There's also a 156-room Dulles Courtyard by Marriott, scheduled to open in January 2001, and 1,100 residential units.

Lerner's mall portfolio also includes White Flint in North Bethesda, Md., and Landover Mall in Landover, Md. In addition, Lerner was the original developer of Tysons Corner Center and Tysons II Galleria in McLean, Va., and Wheaton Plaza in Wheaton, Md.
