Pier 1 to Close Up to 80 Stores

Home-furnishings retailer also reports lower sales

Pier 1 Imports Inc. (Fort Worth, Texas) said it will close as many as 80 stores during its next fiscal year. The struggling home-furnishings retailer disclosed that plan in reporting that its fourth-quarter revenues dropped 11 percent from a year earlier, to $389.9 million, along with a net loss of $29.4 million for the period.
