ReCollections

Scrapbooking is a fast-growing Hobby, with scrapbook conventions, contests and online magazines, such as scrapaddict.com and scrappingwithstyle.com, popping up across the country.

To keep up with this growth, ReCollections, a Coppell, Texas-based unit of Michaels Stores Inc. (Irving, Texas) that specializes in scrapbook merchandise, sought a fixturing system that would be versatile enough to handle the dense merchandise displays and frequent product changes associated with this popular craft. The retailer also wanted the system to be easy to install, since employees would be tasked with frequent changeouts.

Leggett & Platt Store Fixtures Group (Niles, Ill.), which had worked with Michaels in the past, called upon several of its branch companies to provide a solution for a new Arlington, Texas, store.

New wall fixtures, a floor gondola and specialty shelves (provided by Syndicate Systems, Middlebury, Ind.) were designed to accommodate high-density small-item merchandising, which is arranged by theme (e.g., sports, wedding, babies and card-making). Specialty shelves, hooks and hardware hold a mix of small merchandise items, such as paper, diecutters, albums, stamps, stickers and trinkets.

Designers chose powdercoated finishes for the steel gondola and aluminum slatwall components, steel shelves and hardware and laminated wood-base decks to create a high-end look. Additionally, the fixtures snap together without the use of tools, reducing the retailer's installation time and costs.

L&P's Kelmax Equipment Co. division (Decatur, Ga.) produced lockers, carpeted dollies and two-wheeled carts, while Dillmeier (Torrance, Calif.) provided tempered glass shelves.

As the ReCollections concept is rolled out across the country, its new fixturing program offers a well-organized display with maximum flexibility to accommodate the growing popularity of scrapbooking.
