Save-A-Lot (St. Louis), a leading U.S. hard-discount, limited assortment grocery chain and a wholly owned subsidiary of SuperValu, is laying the foundation to open more stores in the Denver area.

Yesterday, the company announced plans to open a new 140,000-square-foot food distribution center in Aurora, Colo., in June 2014. The closer distribution center will allow Save-A-Lot to stock more fresh quality food options in Denver-area stores and surrounding states, which are currently sourced by a distribution center in Dallas.

Save-A-Lot operates more than 1300 stores across 39 states, from Maine to California. Currently, there are 15 Save-A-Lot stores in the Denver market.
