Sears Canada Launches Off-Price Chain

“The Cut” opens inside Sears Canada store

Sears Canada (Toronto) is opening an off-price chain in Canada. The chain, called The Cut, will open inside select existing stores throughout the country.

The retailer opened its first of these stores last week, though that store’s official grand opening will take place April 1. The concept will eventually roll out to 94 Sears Canada stores total and will also be available online.

Part of the inspiration for the concept’s introduction is to take advantage of unused square footage inside the retailer’s largest stores. The Cut will take up 30,000 to 40,000 square feet inside the stores and will be evenly split between apparel and home offerings, reports Women’s Wear Daily.

If the concept is successful enough, the retailer may consider opening standalone stores in the future.
