Steinway & Sons Opens New York Flagship

Features piano-inspired store design

Steinway & Sons (New York) has opened a new flagship in New York, replacing the company’s previous store on West 57th Street that it sold in 2012.

The two-story, 19,000-square-foot flagship was designed by Annabelle Selldorf and is meant to reflect the craftsmanship of the company’s pianos. That is exemplified in the building’s oak floor and a decorative bentwood ceiling, reports New York Business Journal. It also includes distinctive features such as a 74-seat, state-of-the-art recital hall with live-streaming capabilities, a rehearsal studio for musicians and a variety of digital elements, such as a color-streaming art installation that is an interpretation of Bach’s Goldberg Variations.
