Target Launches Collections Inspired by Local Areas

Boston-inspired collection debuts next week; more cities to come

Target (Minneapolis) has hired designer Todd Snyder to create designs for a new collection that will be offered in 15 of its Boston stores, according to The Wall Street Journal. The collection, called “Local Pride by Todd Snyder,” will highlight local interests and colloquialisms, such as “Wicked Smaht” T-shirts that are a nod to the Bostonian accent and, Marshmallow Fluff, which play to the local custom of enjoying Fluffernutter sandwiches.

The program will launch July 22. On opening day, store employees will supposedly wear shirts that read “Tahget” to celebrate the collection’s launch. The company anticipates creating more local-inspired collections for other urban areas in the future, including Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles. For each collection, Snyder will visit those cities, talk to locals and discern what products stores in the area can incorporate so they feel more connected to their local neighborhoods.

Snyder has his own menswear line and has previously collaborated with brands such as Champion (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Cole Haan (Greenland, N.H.).
