RECENTLY OPENED IN downtown Oakland, Calif., this concept, created for Mr. Espresso, celebrates Italian heritage, community and design. The Caffe invites guests to try “pausa,” an Italian tradition of enjoying espresso while standing at a bar. The attention-grabbing bar is at the center of the space, allowing customers to transform drinking coffee into an experience. “We wanted [the bar] to be a work of art itself, yet approachable,” says J Hulett Jones, Co-Founder of Jones | Haydu, the design firm behind the space’s design. — Ethan Nhek
