In 2019, Walmart (Bentonville, Ark.) opened a record 134 new stores in Mexico, raising its presence there by 5 percent, according to CNBC. Walmart has more stores in Mexico (3,407) than in any other foreign market.

“This is where you find the great population mass that Walmart is going after,” said Banorte  analyst Valentin Mendoza.

Last year’s openings were the largest commitment by the retailer since 2013.
