On Sept. 2, Walmart (Bentonville, Ark.) announced plans to raise hourly pay by $1 for more than 550,000 employees in preparation for the holiday season. The raises are set to go into effect Sept. 25, according to CNBC.

Front-end store employees, general merchandise employees and those in the food and consumable department will be the ones to receive the higher wages. In the past year, Walmart has made three different wage investments for its employees. Walmart’s U.S. hourly wage now sits at $16.40.
