Will Olympic Retail Sales Disappoint?

London retail traffic slow during the Games

With official figures for London retail sales during the 2012 Summer Olympics still on the way, Women’s Wear Daily is reporting that final numbers won’t impress. Sales were particularly slow during the first week of the Games, but increased in the second week and as the event drew to a close, according to WWD.

A Dow Jones Newswires piece reported that retail sales volume grew 0.3 percent from June to July (there were two days of Olympic Games in July) despite economists’ predictions that there would be no increase.
