Domus Design Collection

The Domus Design Collection’s Madison Avenue showroom, once headquarters for an Oriental rug dealer, is a three-story, 30,000-square-foot space. An ornate iron facade and seven large street-level windows on 34th Street and Madison Avenue mark the building, which was designed by Warren and Wetmore (the architects of Grand Central Station) in 1925.

Designers from Phillip Johnson/Alan Ritchie Architects (New York) renovated the cluttered interior, creating a cathedral-like showroom with sculpted sidewalls and a curving staircase. Furniture vignettes are found throughout the showrooms as well as in window displays large enough for customers to walk through.
