Banana Republic (San Francisco), a lifestyle brand in Gap Inc.’s portfolio, has opened its new flagship store at 152 Geary St. in San Francisco. The two-floor, 3500-square-foot flagship is in the city’s Union Square shopping district. It replaces the brand’s previous flagship on Grant Avenue, which was shuttered this past summer.

“As we embark on the next chapter in the BR story as the premium lifestyle brand, we remain driven by a desire for exploration and connection,” said Sandra Stangl, Banana Republic President and CEO. “Our Banana Republic Geary Street store is our brand’s pinnacle flagship, showcasing our continued transformation in our historic hometown. We’re excited to invite our customers to come home and experience the world of Banana Republic.”

The new BR Geary Street store offers ready-to-wear, accessories and an assortment of the newly launched BR Home, including seating, dining furniture and a lighting installation that complements the apparel collections.

“As seen recently with the opening of our BR Home NYC and LA pop-ups, we’re continuing to expand our store footprints, discovering what works, thinking about interesting and innovative ways to reach our customers, and imagining what we may do next,” Stangl adds. “Our new flagship embodies exceptional quality, timeless design, and versatile styling that supports our consumer’s journey for a life well lived by offering them curated products that are an integral part of their daily lives, representing a new way to outfit themselves for the world.”

The neighborhood housing the new store has been plagued in recent years by theft and threats to workers, which has resulted in the exodus of more than a dozen retailers, including Anthropologie, Crate & Barrel, H&M, Banana Republic parent Gap and its Athleta unit, Whole Foods and, most recently, Target.
