Increased profit not enough

Published

on

Blockbuster reported a third-quarter loss despite increased revenue. The Dallas-based company posted cash earnings of $22.6 million in 2000, compared to $22 million for the same period last year. Revenue also rose by 7.3 percent. Still, Blockbuster incurred a net loss of $19.3 million, due to a number of issues, including amortization.

Blockbuster has opened 426 company-operated stores in the last year. In July, it partnered Enron Broadband Services to offer an entertainment on-demand service to people in their homes. The company also offers DirecTV systems in 3800 of its stores and expects to introduce pay-per-view service next year.
