Saks Fifth Avenue (New York) has named Robert Tonk vp, store planning and construction.

Tonk, a 30-year veteran of retail design, had been gm, store design/planning and construction, for Hudson’s Bay Co. (Toronto) since 2002. He had earlier spent 10 years with the venerable Canadian department store retailer, as corporate director of design, beginning in 1989. In the interim, he was vp, marketing and design, for fixture manufacturer J.P. Metal America Inc. (Montreal) and director of store design and construction for Holt Renfrew (Toronto).

Tonk’s varied career includes stints with New York retailers Lord & Taylor and Herman’s World of Sporting Goods; the Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., consulting firm Pavlik Design Team; and Atlanta design and consulting company Miller Zell Inc.

Saks said Tonk will be a member of the operating committee and will report to president and chief merchandising officer Andrew Jennings.

“Bob brings extensive design, planning, and implementation experience in luxury department stores to Saks Fifth Avenue,” Jennings said. “We are very pleased he will be joining our team.”
