Publix Expands in Virginia

Publix Super Markets Inc. (Lakeland, Fla.) is opening two new stores in Richmond, Virginia, expanding into the Virginia market for the first time. This is also the first time the company has entered a new state in four years reports Washington Business Journal.

The company also hired a broker and had a booth at the International Council of Shopping Centers’ Mid-Atlantic Dealmaking and Conference event for real estate networking at National Harbor in Washington, D.C. The article further reports that these moves indicate that the grocery chain may be preparing to enter the D.C. market.

Publix currently operates more than 1100 stores in six states.
