Staples Plans More Store Closures

Staples Inc. (Framingham, Mass.) says it will close more stores than previously announced this year as it tries to reposition itself to remain competitive, reports SFGate.

The aim is to close stores and cut costs to improve profitability, while increasing its online offerings and other features to draw shoppers. The strategy is a response to increased online shopping and heavy competition in the office supply arena.

“We're building momentum as we reinvent Staples,” Ron Sargent, Staples' chairman and ceo, said.
