VMSD Announces International Visual Competition Winners

Macy’s window campaign takes home Best of Show

Cutting edge and creative visual displays and windows caught the eyes of judges in VMSD’s 2010 International Visual Competition. “There’s a polarity in visual right now, between those taking a chance and those playing it safe,” says judge Christian Davies, executive creative director, Americas Fitch (Columbus, Ohio). “We were drawn to things that were different.”

Macys’ Herald Square took home Best of Show honors for a fashion window campaign using colored pieces and rolls of paper. Judges found the layered, artistic installation of colored paper perfectly enhances the fashion-adorned mannequins standing in front.

“It illustrates the marriage of composition and product. It complemented the product instead of becoming the story,” says judge Beth Harlor, associate director, CBDi design, Procter & Gamble (Cincinnati).

Below is a list of the 2010 winners. For more on these winning projects, as well as VMSD’s exclusive visual trends report, see the July issue.
