Nike Chair Phil Knight Stepping Down

Phil Knight, chair of Nike Inc. (Beaverton, Ore.), announced plans to step down from his current role, a move that will end his 51-year tenure as head of the company.

Knight co-founded Nike with Bill Bowerman in 1964, creating the company from the backseat of Knight’s car.

Forbes reports that Nike intends to name a replacement in 2016. Knight stated that he would like current Nike ceo Mark Parker to take the position.
