DESIGNED BY CASS CALDER Smith Architecture + Interiors (New York), Riverwalk is a recently opened 100,000-square-foot, commercial development in the Taawon District of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, featuring a lifestyle center and public park with more than 30 restaurants and retail spaces.

Its overall design centers around food and beverage tenants with outdoor seating and a reflecting pool in the landscaped plaza, reminiscent of a desert oasis. This reflecting pool has three “islands”: Two are irregular shapes with welcoming lawns, and the center island features a panoramic elevator and tower. Three levels among six buildings house a range of shopping destinations, and the plaza is walkable and accessible.  Its buildings are primarily off-white with smooth plaster, providing a sculpted appearance.

With Riyadh being a car-based city, Riverwalk allows for a rare pedestrian gathering space in this bustling city with a population of 8 million residents.
